Basic IT Requirements
Try a Sample Test
The purpose of this sample test is two-fold. It should be used to verify that images display properly, audio plays correctly, and to show sample WRS items.
To take a brief, sample WRS test, go to www.techfluency.org/esess then enter this information into the four blanks and follow the on-screen prompts:
Organization: Virginia WRS
First Name: Sample
Last Name: Sample
After the Test
Immediate Results: Once students complete the test and click "Submit for Grading," they can immediately see their test results in a report on the computer screen. If a printer is enabled, the immediate results can be printed (recommended).
Once the testing window is closed, summative reports with detailed post-test data can be generated by the Test Site Administrator for appropriate dissemination.
A state verified credit certificate will be provided to the students with passing scores.
New Contract System - The assessment ordering and registration process has changed! The new system is a contract-based system so you will not place orders or send purchase orders to CTECS. (Refer to Step 1 under the Begin the Ordering Process section, below).
Credits are Eliminated - Until now, unused assessments from the previous testing season became credits. Now with the new contract system, credits will not be issued for unused assessments since organizations will only be billed for assessments used .
If your organization had available credits from the previous testing season, an adjustment will be made when the organization is invoiced.
Group Students by Teacher - The student registration form template includes a column for a teacher's name. Once a teacher is "assigned" to each student, E-SESS reports can be filtered by each teacher's name. This should prove very helpful as you manage report data and generate student login test tickets. Note! If a student has been enrolled, linked to Teacher A and later, the same student is enrolled, linked to Teacher B, Teacher A will be updated (overwritten) with Teacher B.

Step 1 - Submit a Contract or Open Purchase Order
Option 1: Complete and Submit the Virginia WRS Purchaser Contract CTECS Purchaser Contract Note: The contract must be completed and signed by the appropriate person responsible for payment for the assessments.
Please complete this contract and follow the instructions to print, sign, and submit it to CTECS. Once the contract is received and approved, it will be signed and returned to you along with a contract number. The contract number will be required for student registration.
If you have questions about the contract, contact Ken Potthoff, firstname.lastname@example.org, 404-994-6538 or Robyn Marshall, email@example.com, 404-994-6534.
Option 2: Submit an Open Purchase Order to CTECS. (What is an Open PO and what are the advantages of using one?) Please make payable to the Career and Technical Education Consortium of States (CTECS). Open POs may be faxed or mailed to Dana Wilson; please do not send duplicates. Fax it to 404-679-4556 or mail it to CTECS, Attn: Dana Wilson, 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097.

Test Site Administrator Information back to top
The test site administrator is the CTECS point of contact for testing at a given site.
After you have completed the registration process, you will receive an e-mail message with your log in and password to access E-SESS, the online assessment system. The log in and password will allow you to generate student test tickets and summative reports. If you register additional students later, you will use the same log in and password. Important! It is your responsibility to secure this information to prevent others from accessing the assessment information.
Prior to testing, log in and generate and print test tickets for the appropriate students. Please use the test tickets in a timely manner.
As the test site administrator, you are responsible for
accurately completing and submitting the assessment order.
accurately completing and submitting the Test Site Administrator Registration and Agreement Form and the Virginia WRS Student Registration Form.
ensuring that the number of student names on the Virginia WRS Student Registration Form matches the quantity of assessments ordered.
securing proctors and informing them about the assessment process.
informing proctors that they cannot proctor their own students.
ensuring that the assessment site meets the "Basic IT Requirements" (below).
securing the E-SESS administrator log in and password.
informing CTECS of the test date(s).
generating and appropriately distributing student test tickets, summative reports, and certificates for your school division/school.
contacting CTECS with questions or support issues.
It is critical that you communicate closely and regularly with CTECS so that staff can be available to assist if needed.
All data, information, and questions will go through the identified test site administrator. If the test site administrator is not the test proctor, he/she must designate a proctor(s) for the test at the specific site. The test site administrator should understand the process and ultimately be responsible for ensuring that students are correctly registered and able to take the test.
Important! Please review the resources below in advance of testing:

Browser: The testing program is best viewed using Internet Explorer 7 - 9; it is not compatible with IE 10. It is also supported in Firefox and Safari 4+ on the PC and the Mac. Flash Player 7+ is required.
Compatibility Mode: This must be turned OFF in IE 8 and 9 in order to display the test. If it is on, just a blue screen will display.
Other browsers beyond what is listed above may work, but the specified browsers are the only versions actively tested and supported. We will try to help with any other browsers or older versions, but we offer no guarantees. Bandwidth may be an issue if itís not "dedicated." A school may have 5 T1s, but if they have 50 students in the library streaming videos, the entire pipe is going to be used. The bandwidth estimation of this requirement is based on 150200 students simultaneously taking the test on a dedicated T1 and experiencing no delays.
Display Properties: The testing program is best viewed at 1024 x 768 display resolution or higher. It will work at 800 x 600.
Bandwidth: The bandwidth recommendation is a T1 line for every 150 simultaneous users. The T1 may be able to serve additional students; however, student populations greater than 150 per site have not been tested and confirmed by Testing Fluency Institute (TFI).
Memory: There are no specific requirements for the CPU, RAM, etc. If the machine will run the browser, the E-SESS application will run.
Suggestion: Take a sample test at each location before students begin testing and have one or two students actually log on and take the sample test. This ensures that there are no proxy servers preventing access to the site, no software packages preventing cookies/sessions from being stored, etc.
