Important Information for 2012-13 Testing!

New Contract System - The assessment ordering and registration process has changed! The new system is a contract-based system so you will not place orders or send purchase orders to CTECS. (Refer to Step 1 under the Begin the Ordering Process section, below).

Credits are Eliminated - Until now, unused assessments from the previous testing season became credits. Now with the new contract system, credits will not be issued for unused assessments since organizations will only be billed for assessments used .

If your organization had available credits from the previous testing season, an adjustment will be made when the organization is invoiced.

Group Students by Teacher - The student registration form template includes a column for a teacher's name. Once a teacher is "assigned" to each student, E-SESS reports can be filtered by each teacher's name. This should prove very helpful as you manage report data and generate student login test tickets. Note! If a student has been enrolled, linked to Teacher A and later, the same student is enrolled, linked to Teacher B,  Teacher A will be updated (overwritten) with Teacher B.

Test Site Administrator Information back to top

The test site administrator is the CTECS point of contact for testing at a given site.

After you have completed the registration process, you will receive an e-mail message with your log in and password to access E-SESS, the online assessment system. The log in and password will allow you to generate student test tickets and summative reports. If you register additional students later, you will use the same log in and password. Important! It is your responsibility to secure this information to prevent others from accessing the assessment information.

Prior to testing, log in and generate and print test tickets for the appropriate students. Please use the test tickets in a timely manner.

As the test site administrator, you are responsible for

It is critical that you communicate closely and regularly with CTECS so that staff can be available to assist if needed.

All data, information, and questions will go through the identified test site administrator. If the test site administrator is not the test proctor, he/she must designate a proctor(s) for the test at the specific site. The test site administrator should understand the process and ultimately be responsible for ensuring that students are correctly registered and able to take the test.

Important! Please review the resources below in advance of testing:

Basic IT Requirements  back to top

Browser: The testing program is best viewed using Internet Explorer 7 - 9; it is not compatible with IE 10. It is also supported in Firefox and Safari 4+ on the PC and the Mac. Flash Player 7+ is required.

Compatibility Mode: This must be turned OFF in IE 8 and 9 in order to display the test. If it is on, just a blue screen will display.

Other browsers beyond what is listed above may work, but the specified browsers are the only versions actively tested and supported. We will try to help with any other browsers or older versions, but we offer no guarantees. Bandwidth may be an issue if it’s not "dedicated." A school may have 5 T1s, but if they have 50 students in the library streaming videos, the entire pipe is going to be used. The bandwidth estimation of this requirement is based on 150–200 students simultaneously taking the test on a dedicated T1 and experiencing no delays.

Display Properties: The testing program is best viewed at 1024 x 768 display resolution or higher. It will work at 800 x 600.

Bandwidth: The bandwidth recommendation is a T1 line for every 150 simultaneous users. The T1 may be able to serve additional students; however, student populations greater than 150 per site have not been tested and confirmed by Testing Fluency Institute (TFI).

Memory: There are no specific requirements for the CPU, RAM, etc. If the machine will run the browser, the E-SESS application will run.

Suggestion: Take a sample test at each location before students begin testing and have one or two students actually log on and take the sample test. This ensures that there are no proxy servers preventing access to the site, no software packages preventing cookies/sessions from being stored, etc.
